A New iPhone App Reveals Why Baby Cries

I know how hard it is when you first bring home that bundle of energy, especially those first few nights when you must learn which cry means what. Am I right?

Apple iphone figured out parents need this too and have now made a new application for the iphone that will distinguish what your baby’s cry means.

An example:
The iphone said one baby was sleepy and gave a list of suggestions, here are two: 1. Read a story softly to baby 2. go on a walk with baby in a confortable stroller.

The crying generator only seems to come up with 5 different types of cries: 1. hungry 2. pacifier 3. sleepy 4. play with me 5. diaper. The application costs $9.99 a month and gives you suggestions to calming baby whether they need a new diaper or just need to get some sleep. I know I have a 2 year old that I’d love to try this out on, but I don’t have an iphone. Have you tried it?

Your Baby Cries Her Momma’s Native Tongue

Ever been curious why your newborn baby already sounds like mom or dad? One big reason is that scientists believes the baby learns, or picks up his/her mother’s accent from inside the womb.

This would mean if dad were around with an equally strong accent he/she could be picking up two different accents before they utter their first breath.

According to Rueters:

Kathleen Wermke of the University of Wuerzburg in Germany, who conducted the study with French and American colleagues, said it showed newborns “are capable of producing different cry melodies” and that they prefer melodies in the pattern of the language they heard in the womb.

Wermke’s team recorded the cries of 60 healthy newborns, 30 born into French-speaking families and 30 born into German-speaking families, when they were three to five days old.

Their analysis, published in journal Current Biology, revealed clear differences in the shape of the newborns’ cry melodies, based on their mother tongue.

Previous studies have shown that human fetuses can memorize sounds from the external world by the last three months of pregnancy and are particularly attuned to melodies in both music and language. Vocal imitation studies have also shown babies can match vowel sounds spoken by adults, but only from 12 weeks old.

Wermke’s team said their research showed an “extremely early” impact of native language and confirmed that babies’ cries are their first proper attempts to communicate specifically with their mothers.

You all know it is that first cry that we yearn to hear, try to see who the baby will take after. So now that everyone knows once again that babies do hear sounds from inside the womb how many will break out the classical mozart’s?

Florida Baby Found

The Florida Missing baby has been found in a bit of a bizarre scene. As I last wrote the babysitter had admitted to writing a letter and demanding basically the state do something, when they state didn’t she did.

Apparently She carved or bought a cedar chest just big enough for Shannon to fit in and slid right under the bed. No one would’ve been wiser to a baby being under the bed, but it was discovered that a tiny infant was in fact in it and still very much alive. The only thing missing was a bottle.

No clue where the baby will go right now but both women are being charged in this and it seems at one point the mom actually gave Susan her baby so no telling what happened. Either way I hope this baby goes to someone that really, really loves her. What do you think happpened?

Update in Florida Missing Baby Case

There has still been no sighting of baby Shannon, however a babysitter, Susan Baker, has come to the media with proof that she wrote the Govenor earlier this year explaining that this little girl had drug abusing parents and that she loved her and didn’t want to see it destroy the baby’s life. Police are now looking into seeing if there is a possible link in the disappearance, especially if nothing was ever done.

Back in 1987, Baker’s stepson who was only 3 disappeared and has never been found. She was charged back then with 10 years in prison for abuse. Could this be why earlier today authorities blocked off the babysitter’s home, just in case there is a possible connection they can begin watching her.

No matter what the case really is, hopefully this little girl is safe and sound and will be brought home soon. I’d never want to see anything happen to these little kids and it sounds like the mom is worried sick.

Missing Florida Baby

Shannon Lea Dedrick is only 7-months old and it is believed she went missing after her parents put her to bed. But sometime during the following morning when they came to check in on her she was gone.

There are rumors swirling the family had posted online they’d buried her, others were they were being investigated by DCF. While none of us would like to think any of this is true it is a possibility, but remember folks it is a POSSIBILITY, not 100% someone still could’ve taken her.

One neighbor did report seeing a van pull up late Saturday, however no one knows anything else. Shannon’s mother started knocking on doors shortly after she searched her own home to make sure her baby wasn’t there.

Currently not much as far as details are being released, instead it seems to be tight lipped. If you actually see baby Shannon there is a phone number to reach out to let authorities know: 638.6111.

Last Minute Halloween Tips for Baby

Mom and dad really love this time of year, especially if it is Baby’s first Halloween and they get to dress them up. They’ll be a ton of people oohing and ahhing but this year you may actually want to put a cage over baby in order to stop the spreading of germs.

In years past we didn’t really think of such things but with the surge of “swine flu and flu” you never can tell and you want you baby to be safe. Keep a hands off policy this year.

- Make sure never to take your eyes off baby, even if he/she is buckled up in a stroller it only takes a second to pull a baby from a stroller or a wagon. You don’t normally hear about kindappings on halloween, however with the recent murders and abductions of little girls one can’t be too safe.

- Keep a blanket and jacket on hand, this way you can quickly put the jacket over your infant when you believe it is getting too cold. The blanket will be one extra measure depending on the weather.

- Finally, sure letting them get all that sugar is fun but watch them carefully because those little fingers will grasp on both little and big and put them in their mouth.

What To Do When Mom Gets Sick

When your baby is little you do everything you can to keep them from getting sick, some may even accuse you of taking your baby’s health safety a little too far. The first time you hear Little Johnny caught pink eye you might ban him from playing with your son Sam just in case it gets back to your newest bundle of joy.

Or maybe Suzzie down the street got chicken pox and her mom asked if you’d babysit for her since she heard yours haven’t got sick yet. Yeah, that didn’t fly with me either. But what happens when you are the one that gets sick?

While moms like to think they have supermommy powers and all that goes with it sometimes we end up getting “the germ.” Sometimes keeping the baby away from mommy just isn’t an option, especially for those moms that are stay at homes moms and stay with their babies all day. Are they always going to get their baby’s sick?

Not necessarily, in fact if you practice what you preach to your children chances are your baby will have a less chance coming down with it. Always make sure to clean the sheets, especially if your baby is sharing the same room as you, air out the house, wash everything down and never, ever sneeze on your baby…or cough. This should definitely help all worried moms out.

Now if you have a second set of hands, say a dad nearby or family or friend, maybe they can help care for the little one off and one just to make sure. Hope this helps and hopefully your baby stays germ free this season.
