Mineral makeup has been one of the cosmetics that had caught my interest. Admittedly, I have this love-hate relationship with it. I love the coverage and finish but sometimes, application can be a real chore.

Another thing that I don’t particularly enjoy is keeping them in sample zip locks even when they can prove to be real handy in terms of portability. Call it vanity but one of the things I like about makeup is the packaging. I’d rather keep the conventional compacts and tubes in the vanity kit I carry in my bag all the time rather than all the small pots and such filled with mineral makeup.

This one from bareMinerals can be a real good solution. One thing that comes close to what this thing can do is the Victoria’s Secret body powder glitter I own. The powder dispenser is cleverly hidden within the brush and all I have to do is push on the other end of the brush to let out the powder while buffing the skin with the brush. Hardly anything’s wasted, which is good, yea?

Makeup application using minerals

Mineral makeup is the latest trend that is the preferred type of makeup by many because of its beneficial properties. Mineral makeup is makeup free of chemicals, preservatives, and unnecessary ingredients, and can even be used immediately after a laser procedure, and would not aggravate or irritate acne-prone skin.

Receding eyes tend to be on the puffy side, too. So, picking out eye shadows on the reddish-brown shades are almost a must-have. It’s dark enough to create a deeper look and mask the puffiness. However, one should be careful not to choose really dark eye shadows cuz these tend to make the eyes even smaller. It’s really advisable to go for ones on the brown shade that’s not too dark and avoid black eye shadows.

Application: Trace a line across the upper eyelid. Trick is to blend upward and outward.

Of course, I know most of you would want to venture into colours on occasion. You’ll be surprised with just how many shades you can actually use. If you want to be a little adventurous, one thing I’ve discovered is trying the ruby red eye shadow that’s a definite eye-catcher.

Application: Simply apply a soft red line across your upper eyelid. No blending required cuz it’s the line that you want. Note that you shouldn’t apply red over the entire upper eyelid or below the eyes.

For puffy eyelids, drop the frosted or glittery eye shadows. Perhaps you can experiment on one with a slight shimmer but that’s it. Reason is cuz it’ll only put emphasis on eyelids. What we are trying to achieve is to tone it down, yea?

Then comes the highlighting part. We want to create a bit of depth by focusing on the brow bone area. A pale eye shadow or white can do the job. Apply the eye shadow from the arch of your eyebrow, along the brow bone, outwards. This will highlight that area, leaving the lid with darker eye shadow looking deeper than it really is.

For a finishing touch, apply mascara on the lower lashes first cuz it’s easier then apply several coats to achieve a thicker lash. Use a lash curler to create a more lengthier lash. Thick lashes help make eyes look wider.

There you go. I hope these simple tips on eye makeup application can help you out. If I manage to do this on one of my friends again, I’ll make sure to take some photos and show you.

Suggested Use: Apply mask on a thoroughly cleansed face. Leave on face for 20 to 30 minutes. Remove mask and discard it. Finish with a toner and moisturizer.

Long-lasting, shimmering liquid eyeliner defines your eyes without creasing or smudging!

I’ve been well-addicted to the MAC Fluidline, a gel liner, since I had gotten my hands on it a few months ago. Loving it for the ease in application and that it’s long-wearing. But there are instances albeit rarely when smudging has been a problem.

Unlike this one from shu, which seems to come in a package that allows you to apply the makeup with its own applicator, the gel liner needs a separate brush. The gel liner’s problem would be if the user is aware of what sort of makeup brush she’ll us that will work best. Though, I wonder if the liquid eyeliner IS easy to put on, applicator and all.

In terms of portability, the liquid eyeliner looks seemingly like a pen which you can shove in your vanity kit with ease. But the downside would be if a child gets a hold of it and mistakenly uses it as one and doodles all over the place! I reckon you’ve got to have a makeup remover handy, just in case. Hehe.

If you, dear Beauty Bento Box reader, don’t have any idea where Palawan is, it’s in the Philippines. Known for being the last frontier of untouched and pristine coastlines in the country. I happen to have had the opportunity to travel there once again. Third time actually.

Anyway, one of the things I did whilst there, together with my good friends, was to come in for a mini-photoshoot with a pro. What was not part of the original plan though was that they’ll be asking me to do their makeup. How can I possibly say no esp when my friend Raissa had teasingly said, “it’s not everyday do we get to have you do our makeup for a change” (paraphrased).

I have to admit that I actually had fun doing it. It’s like sharing a gift. If I can do it on strangers then why not my very good friends, yea?

Good thing that Raissa’s skin tone was quite close to mine so my makeup worked well on her skin. It took me roughly 20 minutes to finish the job. And as you can see, the makeup is a light application. It merely made look more radiant and less pale in photos. Also, the makeup was not too much for what we had planned to do the rest of the day so she needn’t take it off.

The last time I did a feature like this was: A Bento Beauty Project, which I did on another model-friend, Eena.

I love playing makeup artists to my friends. It’s great to know they trust me enough to make them a little more prettier than usual. Thanks for letting me publish your photo, Raissa!
