New York Islanders center, Mike Comrie, was spotted at the MTV Studios with his girlfriend, Hilary Duff, to participate in the final episode of the long-running series, Total Request Live (TRL).  I have to admit that I’m surprised that the show is coming to an end but that’s showbiz, right?

Beauchemin suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee after an overtime loss to the Nashville Predators this past Friday.

Aw come on!  Already!?  I’m reading reports that the Tampa Bay Lightning have fired their new head coach, Barry Melrose.  I’m sad that it has ended this way because I was so excited when he returned to coaching after a 15 year (?) absence.  In the meantime, associate coach, Rick Tocchet, will be filling in until they find a replacement.

"Ultimately, I didn’t think that the club was responding the way that we would like to be," General Manager Brian Lawton told TSN.  "We’ve set high standards here and we weren’t achieving them.  I wasn’t necessarily comfortable with the direction that we were headed and although it may seem like an extreme decision, it’s one that we are 100% behind as a group."

I know the Lightning aren’t exactly the most winning team right now (they are in a three-game slump with a 4-5-1 in the past 10 games) but it’s too bad that he can’t have a little longer to try to get things together. 

Then again, when you consider the fact that the Los Angeles Kings fired him after a 6-game losing streak back in 1995 (which makes his record as head coach 5-13-4 in his last 22 games) I can understand the decision.  I’m still disappointed, though…

This is really unfortunate since the 29-year-old was playing quite well this season posting 7 assists and a plus-9 rating (a team best!) in 17 contests.  I think the team is really going to feel this but, hopefully, he will be able to pick up where he left off after he heals.

I was mildly surprised by the sudden swap of these veteran blueliners.  Boucher was in the final year of his contract and 3 points so far this season, while Sydor (who was also in the final year of his contract) has one goal and one assist in the 8 games he has played.

They both stood to make $2.5 million before the trade so, I assume, that won’t change.  Should be interesting to see if this makes any difference on either team…
