MUFE at Fashion Week Swim

You might think that Fashion Week comes but twice a year, but in recent years, there have been more and more cities taking part! Up next on the calendar is Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, held in Miami, FL from July 15-19, 2009.

While the coolest swimwear shows are going on on stage, this year, Make Up For Ever will be backstage creating the make up looks for some of the top shows using the hottest colors of the season and their high performance formulas.

Runway Redux: Dramatic Eyes

Bold smoky eyes were one of the many ’80s inspired looks that stood out on the Fall 2009 runways. Appearing at top shows including Zac Posen, Michael Kors and Bottega Veneta, dark dramatic eyes are a must have for the upcoming season.

To get the look at home, try Jemma Kidd Make Up School’s new Eye Essentials Semi-Matte Shadow in Aubergine. This unique blend of dark brown, grey and purple is a perfectly modern way to create a smoky eye.

In terms of application, try focusing the shadow on the lower lash line and blending to add dimension and enhance the eyes. Finish the look with your favorite black mascara to intensify and finish the look.

Fall 2009 Preview: Chanel

As a city built on water, Venice was a source of great intrigue for the legendary Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel. She saw the city as simultaneously dramatic and fragile - qualities she herself possessed.

In honor of Coco Chanel’s affection for the city, Peter Philips, Global Creative Director for Chanel Makeup, took inspiration from the city of Venice for the Fall 2009 color collection. Think rich sienna and deep rose tones, along with dusky greys and greens that when combined, create a lovely and modern look.

Mineral Magic: Everyday Minerals

I don’t know about you, but I’m not much of a mineral makeup gal myself. I usually prefer a dewier finish for my look and loose powders can be tough to work with if you’re not savvy about application. But Everyday Minerals makes it easy with their Resort Eye Palette.

The packaging on this palette is clever to begin with - each of the four versatile pink and brown shadows are contained neatly within individual compartments and the kit even includes a wee (yet useful!) brush for application.

The color payoff and texture on the Everyday Minerals shadows is quite nice as well. Try them with a primer (I like Urban Decay Primer Potion) and they’ll last all day.

The Return of Lancôme Pout-à-Porter!

The folks at Lancôme today announced the return of their AMAZING Pout- à-Porter lipstick series. The previous four lipsticks in this collection were collaborations with celebrated designers Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Peter Som and Thakoon which sold out in a snap but next Spring, the brand is collaborating with emerging designer Chris Benz and they need YOUR help naming this fabulous mystery shade.

If you’d like your shot at makeup infamy (and five of the lipsticks plus a $500 Lancôme gift certificate for yourself!) visit the Chris Benz Facebook Page and leave a comment on the wall with your idea for the perfect name for his Pout-à-Porter lippie.

Makeup Minute How To: Look Younger

Regardless of age, most women are dying to look and feel a bit younger. With that in mind, celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman pulled together five simple tips that will help take a few years off your look!

1. FOUNDATION - Don’t go too alabaster. No matter what your natural skin tone is, mix in a bit of bronzer into your foundation for a nice lift of color.

2. LIPS - No browns or mauves allowed! Pick something juicy for your lips - like a watermelon or cherry gloss. Glosses aren’t heavy and really make your lips pop.

3. HAIR - As you get older, soften and lighten up your hair. If you’re chestnut brown, add some subtle dark and golden blond highlights.

4. HAIRDOS - You want touchable hair that you can run your fingers through, so stay away from helmet head styles and embrace styling products that leave your hair flexible and soft (skip the hairspray!)

5. PLASTIC SURGERY - Many women consider going under the knife as they get older, but remember to go easy! Your goal should be to look good for your age, not to look like you did in college.

Smokey Eye Heaven:L’Oreal HIP Kohl Eyeliner

Smokey eyes can be a tricky makeup technique to master - unless, of course, you’ve got the right products and tools in your arsenal. If you’ve been looking to add some smolder to your look, you’ll definitely want to snag L’Oreal’s new HIP Kohl Eyeliner.

These loose kohl eyeliners are a relatively simple to use and produce a really lovely, soft smokey eye without the need for a smudger. They also come in six colors - from the simple black to some bold brights like teal and gold. An eyeliner to suit every mood! Now, THAT’s a concept I can get down with.

Just one caveat, be sure to apply before putting on your foundation as you may experience a bit of fall out. All in all, a small price to pay for a great smokey eye!

Get the Look: Alicia Keys at the BET Awards

For the 2009 BET Awards this past Sunday, celebrity makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff created a Moroccan inspired look for Alicia Keys based on her recent trip for the Mawaline Festival. .
