What would you do to get a free Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer? Have a pillow fight with a couple of hot girls? Yeah, tough call I know.

The Schick folks want us to try their new razor, you know the one with the trimmer on one end and razor on the other. All you have to do is go to www.trimflixx.com and well here this gives you an idea:

Shaving Stuff had this to say:

Interested in one of those hot new Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmers? You can get one for free. Here’s the catch - you have to endure a pillow fight with two scantily-clad women. Oh, the things we do in the name of shaving Source: Free Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer | Shaving Stuff - ShavingStuff.com

Am I going to try one? You bet. Lucky for all of us I’m just getting sent one (whew), you however …

If you do have you’re little romp, put the link in the comments … come on you know you want to.

A new reader sent me a link today with the top 10 reasons you should try a straight razor—10 Reasons to Shave With a Straight Razor—I love shaving humour. Seriously most of the tips are applicable to DE safety razors as well.

I’m still not up for trying and the biggest reason is that I’m a lefty and I don’t think the razors are made for me.

I’m getting better with the Merkur though. Using some pre-shave oil if I haven’t shaved for a couple days is a new trick for me (using it on pass 1 and 2 instead of just 2).

If you really want to give this a try, or want to channel your inner Sweeney Todd, ShaveMyFace has an awesome, 40 page how to guide for straight razors.

Though, I think they should cover how to stop bleeding from facial wounds as an additional section.

You know there is a good reason why Gillette called it a safety razor, straight razors just don’t say “safe” to me.

It’s Canada Day up here and before I go off wandering Victoria and such, I thought you might like a few things to read today.

First is this week’s Manival, which, as always, has great stuff to read. Looks a little sparse in the grooming and style dept. Guess I should get on the stick and submit something.

I did that review of the BodyGroom, which if you guys remember was known for a pretty funny launch campaign.

Here is one of the, um, more interesting parts of the campaign, the BodyGroom music video:

That does it for me today … time to enjoy the day.

Regardless of all this, guys, really what we eat makes a difference. You know if you watch CSI they can check heavy metal poisoning from hair and nails.

So, yes … yeah those veggies I guess are important.

Man I have to go buy some carrots.

[A plea to my humble reader - please read this entire review. What may seem like a lost cause turns into a happy ending.] There’s a reason they call John Allan’s Splash After Shave "an old school after-shave splash with a bite." Alcohol. And lots of it. What looks like a friendly bottle of bubbles turns out to be a harsh wake-up after your shave. Splash some Splash on your freshly shaven face and feel the bite. [Note to humble reader: keep reading] But then something magical happens. Your face actually feels good. And it doesn’t need any more love. John Allan’s Splash After Shave is $18.50 for a 4oz bottle. Review of John Allan’s Splash After Shave
Russell Neufeld
Tue, 24 Jun 2008 12:58:00 GMT

Lucky for me … I’m heading to Vancouver tomorrow which has two of the four places where I can get John Allan’s stuff in Canada (the other two are in Toronto where I’m moving shortly) and I intend to pick some up and give it a shot. What’s the worst that can happen …

I hadn’t really heard of or tried pre-shave oils or shave oils until recently. The premise is simple of course, a nice skin-friendly (good smelling is nice, but not critical to the function) oil that you put on before your shave creme/gel or use alone.

Regardless of gel, creme, soap, or oil the idea around preparing your face so your whiskers are soft and the razor glides over not into you face.

Essentials for Him Prepped shave oil is made from good oils and to prep your face for the onslaught of shaving.

When I first tried this shave oil I think I tried it under one of my soaps. I didn’t really notice a different. I did like the nice citrus smell though. Next time was with the safety and just the oil. Okay this was a bad call. Don’t do that, okay?

Today, though I really got a good feel for it and really liked the extra smoothness it lent to my shave.

Today I used my Lightfoot’s pine shave soap (from Kala Style, of course) and for my second pass thought I’d give the oil another go.

The first time I did the oil before the lather for second pass bit, I don’t think I used enough oil. Today I used about three squirts and spread on my face. I paid particular attention to my neck since that’s where I to have a knack for nicks.

I noticed a nice difference this time. Nice glide on the razor. Good close shave—that could also be from practice though—and only a couple of nicks (clearly I need more practice).

When would I use this? Maybe not everyday, but certainly on a day where I had to shave, and shave well, two days in a row. I think the oil helps to keep you from cutting yourself. I’ve tried a couple third passes and if I’m going to do a third pass from now on I’m going to put this on first, then lather back up.

I haven’t tried it alone, but with a Fusion or Mach3 razor. I will give that a shot, though. It’s certainly worth finding out if it can help or even just feel good.

While this oil isn’t intended as a post-shave kind of treatment, I’d say that if your skin is really dry or irritated it wouldn’t hurt to use a squirt or two on your face or even a small patch on your arms or hands.

At $10.50 for a 1 oz bottle, this is a nice and affordable treat.

When we last left our hero, he was roasting his arm hair off with the No!No!. This is part 2 of the three part series and it’s the Phillips Body Groom’s turn to be on the dock.

The Body Groom is a rechargeable trimmer-shaver that is designed to be shave anything below the neck. The shaver is a the foil kind and the trimmer part is made up of the standard electric trimmer parts and comes with three combs to trim the hair to different lengths.

As a rechargeable you’d think you could leave it on the charger all the time. Yeah not so much. Unlike my Phillips beard and mustache trimmer which can be left on the charger all the time, the instructions specifically say not to. Which seems kinda stupid … except that it might be really hard to manage the power on a device that might not be used everyday.

As you can tell from the title I didn’t think the Body Groom was perfect. I honestly had really high hopes for it. After the No!No! … come on.

I did the standard arm test and thought, okay, this is good. On a whim I decided to try it out on my chest. While you might giggle at this it was fortuitous because a day later I was in the hospital getting ECGs and being hooked up to heart monitors. So, a lack of chest hair (not that I had a lot) was a benefit.

I’ve tried it again a few other times and while it is far and away better than the No!No!, and safer than a razor … I was disappointed in the quality of the shave.

Yes, it shaves and pretty smooth, but … what I’d suggest is that if you’re really going to manscape, whip out the Mach3 or Fusion shave what you want shaved with that first.

Then once you have a basis of smoothness you’re after, keep it touched up with the Body Groom.

The Body Groom, well I’ve seen it everywhere from Future Shop to London Drugs and around the $50 mark.

Do I give it a totally thumbs up? If you’re going to manscape a lot … yeah I think it might a be a good tool in your arsenal. It might not give you a baby smooth shave, but it would be great for a fast touch up.

If you’re a casual manscaper, just spring for a new pack of blades. I don’t think you’d get a lot of use out of it.
