The girls read the letter from Viola and Sophie attempts to redeem herself by saying nice things about her. I’m not entirely buying it, but it’s probably only because I can’t stand Sophie. They get some LisaMail and it turns out they’re getting dance lessons! Hopefully Lisa is the teacher - you know she learned some slick moves on Strictly Come Dancing. Sadly, Lisa doesn’t show up but we do learn that the challenge is to dance in front of strangers!

After the dancing, Ashley goes spastic over the fact Mecia got a special video from her fiancee and she didn’t get anything from her kids. It was confusing and kinda weird.

The girls then head to Elite Model Management, where they are going to be evaluated as models. It’s somewhere between an interview and a go see. They also visit Benito Fernandez. Everyone loves Jade the most, it’s amazing how much of a front-runner she is. Sophie gets positive feedback as well, and I’m thinking they’re going to be the top two.

Since they’re at their international destination, it’s not really Top Model without hot boys and alcohol for one night! Their tour guide from their first day in Buenos Aires and his pal came over, and it’s not long before Ashley and the tour guide are sucking face in the pool. Sophie must have been jealous or something, because it was only a matter of seconds before she’s hooking up with tour guide’s friend!

The photo shoot was a tango themed shoot for Catalogue magazine. The best photo will actually appear in the magazine, which is pretty cool. Jade, as always, was brilliant, Sophie was good and Mecia and Ashley were awkward.

At panel, this is shown, as Jade and Sophie are called first and second and Ashley is sent home. Mecia barely scrapes through and I bet she’s going home next.

AusNTM 5.10 “The Final Three” Recap

It’s Australian Fashion Week and I must say, I love how AusNTM does this. Priscilla, who will represent the winner (and often signs the girls who don’t win) booked a bunch of castings for the final three. They have to run around like real models trying to get into shows, just like every other model in Australia right now. Sure, it’s a big staged because they need designers to agree to be filmed and what-not, but it’s a step up from how other Top Models do it.

However, it does mean there’s no dramatic final catwalk show, it’s the live finale. And I’m not the biggest fan of the live finale. I do like how more than just the judges get a vote, so it’s a toss-up.

Clare books Ginger & Smart, but Cassi and Tahnee don’t. They tell Cassi it’s because of her walk, but don’t give Tahnee a reason at all. I wonder if it’s because of her size because her walk is pretty good.

The next casting is at Wayne Cooper and Clare is easily cast. Tahnee gets a pass because of her body type and Cassi gets the second spot, with some reluctance. Wayne warns her about her walk but is confident with some practice she’ll be a great model.

Nicola Fenetti was the next casting. He’s looking for sexy ’80s style girls and Tahnee fits the bill perfectly. Cassi doesn’t and Clare picks up her third booking of the day.

Okay, at this point, isn’t it obvious Clare should win? She’s 3/3 on her castings and Cassi’s only getting booking based on her potential. Tahnee has a niche market and she’ll do wonderfully in that, but as an overall top model, she’s toast. That being said, none of the judges seem lo like Clare, and that will be a big strike against her. Stupid biases.

The fourth casting of the day is at Anna & Boy. They really know what they want and give the girls a lot of direction. Their look is very specific and they only book Cassi. The competition is heating up and the confessional remarks are getting snarkier and snarkier!

At Diet Coke Little Black Dress casting, and all three girls are booked for the show. I’m getting the impression this was the plan all along (Jonathan was the casting director for the shoot, after all. And it’s a sponsored show!), but it’s still nice to see they’ll all get at least two shows to be in.

The shows all go well, but Clare is declared the winner. She should, she was cast in the most shows and rocked them all. Tahnee was a complete sex kitten on the runway and I love her, but she only booked two shows. Cassi was awkward on the runway and I love how Charlotte called her “slightly demented.” She does have a great look, but she really needs to work on her walk.

The photo shoot is on the beach and the wind is nearly treacherous. It’s a group shot that’s all about raw beauty and the girls have to pretend that they’re best friends in this photo. Ha! I love it!

At panel, Sarah makes them talk about their strengths and weaknesses as a model. Tahnee gets her strengths and weaknesses bang on, but Sarah’s all “your body is beautiful, don’t change!” While this is true, it will limit her work. Tahnee just needs to decide if that’s worth it. It’s not Sarah’s job to project her ideals on Tahnee or on the industry. Cassi pisses me off when she calls out Clare and Tahnee who supposedly want to win this only for the prize money. WTF? Clare kills her answers for me when she starts with a quote. It’s not even cute, it’s very preachy and kind of weird. She breaks down over the prissy princess label and I think she misses the point of the question - and of the prissy princess label.

I’m so torn. Clare’s presentation turned me off. I love Tahnee, but question her ability to actually work. Cassi kills me, but I understand her edge and appeal. At least the deliberation surrounding Cassi reflected that.

Sarah demands that everyone declare their favorite. She chooses Tahnee and I’m not surprised. Alex chooses Clare and I’m not surprised. Doll, the guest judge chooses Cassi and I’m willing to be Jez and Charlotte do too, even if they don’t show it.

Tahnee gets first call out and Clare is sent home. It’s disappointing but understandable, especially considering how the judges’ deliberation went.

I think Tahnee’s going to win it all.

CNTM 5.06 “Bright Lights, No Pity” Photo Shoot

On tonight’s episode of Canada’s Next Top Model, the girls had to do a double photo shoot. First, they portrayed a geeky stylist and second they portrayed their diva alter ego. The photo shoot took place in New York so Maryam wasn’t there because of her passport issues. Instead of moping around the house, she went out and found her own photographer and the judges agreed to consider that photo in their deliberations.

CNTM 5.06 “Bright Lights, No Pity” Recap

Last week on Canada’s Next Top Model, it was a Canadian who’s who of reality teleivison, as we saw guest appearances by Dan and Jessi from The Hills Aftershow, Trevor Boris from Much Music and Ben Mulroney in the background for ten seconds. Everyone seems glad Rebeccah went home. While I liked her, it was probably for the best. This show seemed to break Rebeccah emotionally. Oooh, this week’s destination is the CN Tower! So Canadian! The CN Tower reveals Nikita’s secret weakness - heights. I find it interesting it takes so long for this to come out since they live in the penthouse of a really tall hotel.

At the top of the CN Tower, they meet last year’s winner, Rebecca! She tells them about what her life is like now and how the show preps them for the real world of modeling. Jay uses this moment to talk about his apartment in New York, because it turns out, that’s this week’s destination! It’s go-see time! I love that the show is sending them to New York for go sees. It makes the show seem legitimate.

Maryam can’t go because of her passport issue. Not a surprise. I feel kind of bad for her, but what can you do? Why couldn’t the show pull strings to get her a passport sooner? We also learn that Nikita had a really hard time in Singapore because of her wide hips. She seems really vulnerable in this moment and it makes me like her more.

The girls are staying at the presidential suite in New York. No, girls, despite what you think, Obama would not stay there. We get a JayMail where he calls NYC his hometown. Way to snub Scarborough, Jay!

The girls are given $100 and phones. Once a go see is completed, they will be texted the address of their next go see.

The girls get go sees at Tibi, Heatherette, Alice + Olivia, and Loris Diran. Meaghan gets great feedback, and Nikita, Linsay and Heather all get okay feedback, with Heather getting the worst of all. She’s too All American and needs an edge. Linsay and Nikita have edge, but need to improve their walks. Meaghan does make the giant mistake of forgetting her book. Linsay proves how smart she is by bringing flats and changing in the car.

Nikita is late and we know that being late is a carnal sin in Top Model land. The girls are greeted by Elmer Olsen! I love Elmer Olsen so very much. He was a doll at the Toronto auditions. He tells the girls what the designers said about everyone and reveals that Meaghan is the winner! Linsay is a close second and Elmer tells her she should be proud.

At the photo shoot, SUTAN is there! He is my favorite on ANTM and him and Nole together is making me deliriously happy. The photo shoot is dual concept - diva and crewmember.

While the girls are shooting in New York, Maryam calls her friend and does her own photo shoot in Toronto. She’s really dedicated and wants to show the judges that. I have to give her kudos, but don’t think it’s going to help. We’re in the top five now.

The photo shoot looks cool and I’m excited to see the final products.

Jay, because he wants to get the girls drunk for some dramatic footage, gives the girls $5000 to blow on an unforgettable night in NYC. The go shopping, go to dinner and go out. It’s fun but nothing overly dramatic or intense happens.

At panel, Meaghan brings it as the diva and as a stylist. The judges aren’t impressed with Nikita. They love Linsay’s go see attitude and her story for her photo is awesome. Heather’s photo is ruined by PhotoShop and the judges feel she overworked it. Maryam brings her photo and Jay agrees to consider it along with her bosy of work. Before they deliberate, Jay warns her that she’s at a major disadvantage, but gives her kudos for going out and getting a photo shoot on her own.

Maryam’s photo is gorgeous, but is it enough? Linsay gets first call out and I’m surprised she beats out Meaghan. She worked hard this week, so good on her! Meaghan is second, followed by Maryam - shocking! - leaving Heather and Nikita in the bottom two. I have no idea who is going home at this point. In the end, Nikita’s stronger book keeps her in the competition. Heather is simply too much like Meaghan and too girl next door to stay. I’m really sad to see her go, she was a sweetheart.

Tyra Banks, Toccara Jones at BET Awards

Tyra Banks stepped out in an androgynous look at the BET Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles last night. Her look was no doubt inspired by Michael Jackson, as many stars payed tribute to the musical icon through their fashion choices, thoughtful words and musical performances.

I think this look is quite a risk for Tyra, but she definitely pulls it off. It’s once of her better red carpet looks in a while.

The BET Awards were started in 2001 to honor African American achievements in music, acting, sports and entertainment. In its eight years, it has turned into one of the largest and most exciting awards shows of the year. Last night’s show was a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Tyra and Michael have a history together - she appeared in his 1991 music video for Black or White. You can watch the video here, Tyra makes an appearance at 5:30 as one of the morphing heads.

Toccara Jones, who is a presenter for BET and competed on Cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model walked the red carpet in a sexy black jumpsuit.

I think the jumpsuit is great, but I’m not a fan of her updo. What do you think?

I think it’s interesting that both Tyra and Toccara wore pant ensembles for their red carpet appearances. Red carpet fashion has certainly changed over the years and I appreciate the risks stars have been taking!

ANTM & Tyra Banks Nominated for Tubey Awards

Every year, Television Without Pity gives out awards honoring the latest, greatest and outright weirdest in the past year on television. Top Models Say Goodbye to Michael Jackson

The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, passed away on June 25th, 2009. There’s no denying the unbelievable impact MJ had on music today. His art touched many lives, including several of the girls who have been on America’s Next Top Model. Like many other people, they turned to Twitter to express their shock and express condolences to Michael’s friends, family and loved ones.
