OK. Maybe not the “king” but a game is in the works of the Pop icon. Michael Jackson’s production company, MJJ Productions, will be releasing a game that has been in production for several months.

“The game is apparently scheduled for release on home consoles for this Christmas. An MJJ Productions spokesperson commented, ‘I am sure it will still be released. Michael loved games.’” [Industry Gamers]

I wonder how many loyal MJ fans will snatch up the game?

Micheal Jackson Game Forthcoming

While there have been other devices before, 79-year old John Morrisey’s GameDr is currently taking center stage.  It’s similar to a cooking timer (which you could just use instead – I’m sure it would be cheaper/easier to find) and it can be programmed to shut off the power to a console after a predetermined amount of time has passed.  It connects to the power cord so it’s not unique to any one console.

I think it sounds decent since there is a middle ground here since people can still play their game but will be less likely to go overboard with it.  That seems to be Morrisey’s reasoning when he invented it.  He said: “video games are great.  There is evidence that they improve the reflexes and the thinking process. But right now, for many parents, the option is all or nothing — they either let the kids play the video game or they take it away for two weeks.”

Of course, gamers could always replace their power cord and bypass the GameDr all together.

What do you think?  If the GameDr a good idea?  Would you ever use one?  I don’t know if I’d attach it for my kids since they tend to listen when I tell them to turn off their game but I could use it for myself.  On all of the sites that have talked about this device, they seem to view it in a punitive context but I thought it was a good personal tool.  Sometimes I want to sneak in a few minutes of Tetris (that game is so relaxing to me) but I don’t want to blow a whole afternoon on it.  I would use this to keep myself on track so I don’t think it’s only use is to limit the gaming time of others.

GameDr Device Limits Gaming Time

Alien Breed hit the shelves 18 years ago and is what put Team17 on the map. Now the UK team is releasing the “retro-modern” remake. There aren’t a lot of details out yet on the game but the three screens that I have for you are look next-gen.

From the release:

Featuring an action packed, tense single player adventure and an absolute blast of a co-op game, Alien Breed Evolution helps raise the production bar on download-only titles and underlines Team17’s re-energised momentum since deciding to become an independent publisher in the digital distribution era.

Command and Conquer 4 In 2010

The actual gameplay is pretty similar to the first game but you might enjoy the new ability to put use your evil powers via the brand-new corruption system through either Domination or Destruction.

The Minions are just as comical as ever but they have been revamped.  They definitely are stronger and deadlier than in the first game.  One thing that’s pretty cool is that they can ride wolves and other magical creatures (even into battle!).

This third-person action-adventure title includes four multiplayer games (two co-op and two versus) complete with their own distinct maps.

I don’t know if I think this is the best third-person action-adventure game I’ve ever seen but it does look fun (the Minions sorta remind me of the Gremlins at times).  There are better games out there, for sure, but if you liked the first one, this is probably worth trying.

“Overlord 2” Screenshots and Trailer

EA is coming out with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and I, for one, can’t quit singing, “GI JOE! REAL AMERICAN HERO!”. Who’s with me?!

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

One company called TrickleStar is aware of this saving or standby power issue to come up with the TV TrickleSaver which is to stop the flow of standby power when electrical appliances such as TV and your gaming console are in ’standby’ mode.

PS3 is the primary target for such usage while Microsoft Xbox 360 comes in as a close second. Device @ $34.95.
