Austin’s Live Music Task Force Addresses Industry Concerns
Austin’s status as The Live Music Capitol of the World is a vital part of our local economy. As the city has grown and changed, it has created several issues, such as sound control and venue affordability. Mayor Will Wynn and the city council have acted to address concerns within the Austin music industry by creating the Mayor’s Live Music Task Force.
For the past five months, the task force has been collecting information from people involved in all aspects of the music community and are now beginning to draft their recommendations.
Last week, News 8 Austin ran an interesting article concerning the task force and what its currently doing to help Austin’s live music venues. Aside from the tax incentives and utility assistance mentioned, task force member Rose Reyes said that several other ideas have been raised. City assistance in sound-proofing live music venues would alleviate a lot of the sound concerns raised by residents who live nearby. Reyes also mentioned a proposal to create a Capitol Metro live music shuttle that would service all of the city’s main entertainment districts, which would assist venues and music fans alike.
Stay tuned to Austin Sound Check for more information on the task force’s recommendations to the mayor. Drafts are scheduled for presentation to the full task force on August 11th.
