Bat Fest fate hangs in the balance
Last week, we told you about the lineup for this year’s Bat Fest, which features Flobots, Ludo, Cruiserweight and Carolyn Wonderland among many others.
Now, it seems Bat Fest may not happen at all. News 8 and the Statesman are reporting that Batfest organizers, Roadway Productions, have hit a major stumbling block. The city will agree to close roads for events such as Batfest (in this case, the Congress Bridge) if organizers get effected businesses to sign off on the plan.
A handful of small businesses in the Congress Bridge area are not signing off on the plan this year due to concerns over Bat Fest negatively impacting their sales. The city council can grant the road closure without the required signatures but did not elect to do so at yesterday’s city council meeting. They’ve postponed the decision for another two weeks.
That’s bad news for Bat Fest, as the event is scheduled for August 30th & 31st and the city council won’t be deciding on the event’s fate until the week immediately prior.
