Austin Live Music Task Force Meeting Tonight

Following up on a story I brought you last week. The Live Music Task Force meets tonight to present their recommendations to the City Council. In a message posted on MySpace, Beerland owner Randall Stockton emphasized the importance of Austin music industry types attending tonight’s meeting.

Hey folks,

The Live Music Task Force is presenting their recommendations to city council tomorrow, Wednesday Oct. 29 at City Hall, 301 W. 2nd St.

It is extremely important that Austin’s music community attend this meeting as this is the outcome of all that noise ordinance news you’ve heard recently. If the music community makes a strong showing, it sends a message of unity and support to the council. Then maybe they’ll be more receptive to the pro-music programs before them.

This meeting is about a lot more than just a draconian noise ordinance. It’s about helping musicians and venues and the other music oriented businesses in town be able to continue their ongoing contribution to the economic and cultural vitality of Austin. Many other issues besides the noise ordinance are stake–rebates, financial assistance, incentives, energy conservation, marketing and promotion, and so on. This is the first time live music has the chance to be treated like a major industry in Austin, alongside technology and manufacturing, for instance.

Neighborhood groups will turn out in droves to speak out against the rumor that noisy outdoor music venues will be allowed all over town and they’re mad about it. We can’t let their misinformation sway council from adopting the truly positive pro-music recommendations of this live music task force.

Please be counted as supporting the bigger picture–protecting live music in Austin.
