What a weekend… whew! But I’m sure you’re all tired of hearing about ACL. If you didn’t go this weekend and are actually feeling like getting out to see music, I’ve got this week’s show recommendations below, totally ACL-free and with a healthy dose of the heavy stuff.

Monday 9/29
Cut Copy & The Presets @ Emo’s
Electro goodness that’s coming to town on a major wave of blog buzz.

Tuesday 9/30
Charanga Cakewalk @ Continental Club
Latin lounge with indie flair. Charanga will be in residence at Continential Club each Tuesday in October.

Thursday 10/1
Southpaw Jones @ Flipnotics (Triangle)
Not just your average singer-songwriter, ‘Paw (as he’s called) is a self-proclaimed whimsicologist and storyteller, this show is a must see.

Friday 10/3
Iron Age @ Broken Neck
Down and dirty metal in true gritty DIY fashion.

The Boxing Lesson @ Mohawk
Local space rockers battle The Man in their quest for super stardom. Read more here, then go see this show.

Saturday 10/4
Clutch & The Sword @ Stubb’s
Whoever put these bands on tour together deserves a medal. A metal medal? Perhaps.

The Calm Blue Sea & The Midgetmen @ Emo’s (Lounge)
These bands are two of the best in local indie right now. Instrumental rock ala Explosions in the Skys and some fun drunken pop punk make for a great night.

Sunday 10/5
Henry Rollins @ La Zona Rosa
Rollins is this week’s No Duh recommendation. No further explanation needed.

Damn right they deserve a metal medal. I saw Clutch open for Slayer back in 97 and The Sword this year. Both amazing bands and The Swords stage sound is almost identical to their studio sound and that’s very important to me in a live show. As far as henry Rollins goes. I’ve never been imperssed with rollins on stage or tape/cd. His music just doesn’t do it for me. I dig some old Black Flag stuff but that’s about it. Seems like a good, intelligent guy though and I can respect that.
