Drinks After Dark

Introducing a new feature: So you want to learn how to drink…..

by Colleen Coplick on July 2nd, 2008

A year or two ago, I decided that if I wanted to do business with the big boys, I would need to learn to drink something a little more manly than a Cosmo. I knew that the businessmen that I envisioned myself sitting with, which for some reason, were oil barons in my mind’s eye, would be impressed by a woman ordering a scotch rocks.

I announced to my husband that I wanted to learn to drink scotch, knowing that it, and frankly, many other spirits, is an acquired taste.

That little experiment hasn’t ended yet – I’m still working on it – but it occurs to me that there are likely lots of other people in my same situation. Maybe you’re looking to impress the boss. Maybe you want to drink with the guys from work, without being mocked for your drink choice. Maybe you just want to break stereotypes. No matter what your motivation, Drinks After Dark is here for you.

Starting tomorrow, there’s going to be a new feature called “So, you want to learn how to drink….” and we’ll cover all of the wonderful world of spirits that are out there that you either want to start drinking for whatever reason or if you’re just curious about what the heck to do with that bottle in your liquor cabinet you got as a gift.

We’re starting with Tequila, the adversary of so many people (including me, until recently) and then we’ll tackle Scotch with the help of a scotch fan, Tris Hussey. If you’ve got any requests, please let me know in the comments!
