Win an Andromeda Strain Prize Pack
Memorial Day may be a bad day to be a human for Benjamin Bratt, Eric McCormack and Daniel Dae Kim, but for SFUniverse readers, it’s a great day! That’s when we’ll be giving away two Andromeda Strain prize packs from A&E.
In The Andromeda Strain, a U.S. military satellite crashes in a small town and unleashes a deadly plague killing all but two survivors. As the military quarantines the area, a team of highly specialized scientists is assembled to find a cure to the pathogen code-named “Andromeda,” and a reporter investigates a government conspiracy only to discover what he is chasing wants him silenced.
The four-hour original A&E television event stars Benjamin Bratt, Eric McCormack, Ricky Schroder, Andre Braugher, Christa Miller, Daniel Dae Kim and Viola Davis and airs Monday, May 26 and Tuesday May 27 from 9-11 on A&E.
Learn more about the movie at our special Andromeda Strain page and then experience The Andromeda Strain at the official website.
WHAT YOU WIN:
The Prize Package Includes:
- The Andromeda Strain t-shirt,
- The Andromeda Strain DVD Collection featuring both the 2008 A&E miniseries and the Oscar-nominated 1971 film
- The Andromeda Strain novel by Michael Crichton
HOW TO WIN
We’ll be randomly drawing two winners from the commenters on this post. Leave a comment about your favorite Andromeda Strain star or your memories of the original movie or just let us know why you want to win!
Sorry, but only those in the US may enter. Deadline for entries is May 27 at midnight PST.

If I remember correctly, The Andromeda Strain movie was the first experience I had with Michael Chrichton. It’s a pretty thrilling movie, and I have no doubt that the mini series would be the same way. (Since then, I have read quite a few more of his novels, including, of course, The Andromeda Strain)
I’m also a fan of Daniel Dae Kim and Ricky Schroder from Lost and 24, respectively.

It will be interesting to find out if the new version is as good as the first–although with more modern effects, I suppose they might add some additional bells and whistles, which are probably not necessary for the suspense.

It was the original film of The Andromeda Strain that introduced me to Michael Crichton. My father is a science fiction buff and decided the family would go see the film. I was nine years old, but very interested in science. I pestered my dad with questions during the film and for days afterwards. When I was 11, I read the book, and I’ve been an admirer of Crichton’s work ever since.

As a child, this movie fascinated me. I suppose it was because it was my first exposure to an apocalyptic type film. I’ve since enjoyed several doomsday type movies, but this was definitely my first.
I like that (for the time period) it was modern, had intelligent women in it, and dealt with disability. The thought that a virus could wipe out the world was horrifying and yet fascinating at the same time.
While I haven’t watched the original in years, there was a time that whenever I came acrossed it, I’d always have to stop whatever I was doing and watch it.
I’ll be really interested to see if the new movie lives up to the old one.

It will be interesting to see how they manage to “punch this up”, given that major portions of the original (sampling materials and getting almost-real-time analysis; electron-microscopy imaging of the “sample” ‘growing’; incubator response-over-time graphs, etc) are all things we’re able to do right now in most major hospitals and colleges…

This would be excellent, and good timing — I’m pretty sure we have a (noisy) video taped copy of the original, and I know we have a (dog-eared)copy of Crichton’s book.

I’d like to win because The Andromeda Strain was classic sci-fi. I miss classic science fiction. Shows like the latter Star Trek movies don’t really satisfy my need for good sci-fi.

My favorite Andromeda Strain star is Daniel Dae Kim. It’s very interesting to see him in a role other than the character he portrays in Lost.

This remake / re-imagining of “The Andromeda Strain” does not live-up to the original film nor the Michael Crichton novel. I enjoyed seeing the changes and how they would pull this entriguing plot into today’s market, but I was left with the impression that all I was seeing was something along the lines of “CSI:Andromeda Strain”, and Benjamin Bratt is no Arthur Hill. It was enjoyable, but I spent too much time remembering where scenes from the original film were cut, changed or just twisted around; however, I’d be more than happy to win the prizes!

I remember seeing this awesome movie and being fascinated by the science and technology. That was a long time ago and I would love to see the newer version to see how things have changed. The cast of this newer version is marvelous! Thanks for the chance to win!

…the original film is a SF classic: it scared the bejeesus out of me when I saw it in 7th grade back in the late ’60’s.
